Two German Films at the achtung berlin – new berlin film award

Two films shared the coveted Studio Babelsberg Special Award for Production, presented last night at the Berlin Brandenburg Film Festival achtung berlin held at the Babylon Berlin:Mitte theater. The €5,000 prize is to be shared by “Schwarze Schafe” by Oliver Rihs (Production: Oliwood Productions and koboiFILM) and “AlleAlle” by Pepe Planitzer (Production: it works! Medien GmbH/ Annekatrin Hendel and Jürgen Grimmer).

The difficult process of taking a good script or film idea from the planning stages to its debut on the silver often entails searching out hard to find financing sources and fighting through bureaucracy.

A good producer not only runs the business of a film, he or she creates a creative space – this is what we appreciate with this award.

The Studio Babelsberg SPECIAL AWARD FOR PRODUCTION is given to filmmakers and producers whose films were able to overcome the inherent obstacles in movie production, films that were made mainly because of their makers’ “passion and persistence”. The jury’s statement read, “Schwarze Schafe and AlleAlle stand out through their professional execution, emotionality as well as great acting performances”.

“A good producer not only runs the business of a film, he or she creates a creative space – this is what we appreciate with this award”, explains Sonja B. Zimmer, Executive Producer at Studio Babelsberg and achtung berlin jury member.

“We congratulate the winners and we are looking forward to continue supporting the German film business”, says Henning Molfenter, Managing Director Studio Babelsberg Motion Pictures. “The know-how which we gathered during the past few years, especially on international film productions, should also benefit national productions”, continues Henning Molfenter.
