Roman Polanski, director

Polanski started shooting for The Ghost at the beginning of February and underlined good shooting conditions on location and in Babelsberg. The Ghost is Polanski’s second feature film shot in Potsdam and surrounding area. With his half-autobiographic The Pianist, produced in 2002, Polanski created an internationally appreciated masterpiece: His most personal film so far about the life of a Jewish musician in the Warsaw Ghetto (based on the memoirs of Wladyslaw Szpilman) won, along with numerous Césars, two BAFTA Awards, the European Film Award, the Golden Palm in Cannes and three Oscars. Roman Polanski: “All the films that I made before The Pianist were only a kind of rehearsal”.

During the sold out Studio Babelsberg film.talk Roman Polanski referred about screenplay development of his current project The Ghost. Christoph Fisser, executive board member of Studio Babelsberg AG, who is currently in Los Angeles on the occasion of five Oscar nominations for Studio Babelsberg’s production The Reader, is glad about the acknowledgement and returns the compliment: “Roman Polanski is an amazing and unique director. Realizing his ideas and visions sets free a lot of power within the whole crew. We are very glad to be co-producer of The Ghost”.

The yesterday’s talk was a part of Studio Babelsberg film.talks series in close cooperation with the Filmmuseum Potsdam. A retrospective in the Museum’s current cinema program completes the series of discussions, in which studio representatives and filmmakers provide insights into their current projects and film production in general.
